Facebook’s Giving You Even More Control Over Your Ad Placements

One of the many things that make Facebook ads so awesome is that you have the opportunity to extend your campaigns outside of just the Newsfeed.  It allows you place your ads in videos and articles on both Facebook and various publishers’ sites and apps.  In turn, helping you reach a larger audience, and providing the element of content adjacency.  Which is so important because this is what helps drive consumers through the buyer’s journey.

As an advertiser, you already have a lot of power when it comes to what your content’s showing up next to.  Facebook already provides you with the ability to opt out of Instant Articles, Audience Network, and in-stream ads.  But now they’re saying, “that’s not enough.”

And so, say hello to the new controls for your Facebook ads.

Ad PlacementS Tools

Pre-Campaign Transparency

A select group of advertisers are currently taking this tool for a spin.  So, basically what it does is provides upfront, publisher-level transparency across the Audience Network, Instant Articles, and in-stream ads on Facebook.  In an FB first, advertisers will be able to see a list of places their ads could potentially appear before making the campaign live.  This tool is still in the works, and Facebook’s hoping that, after perfecting it with this small group of advertisers, they’ll be able to release it to all of us later this year.

Blocking at the Account Level

Before, if you didn’t want your ads appearing next to certain content, you had to log-in to each specific campaign or set of ads separately.  Well, this just got a whole lot easier, because now, you have the option to block lists at the account level instead.  Did we just hear a sigh of relief?  Yep, because this control makes it simple to keep your lists consistent across all campaigns and creatives.  Facebook says this control will be available for the Audience Network and Instant Articles this month.  And keep an eye out for it in in-stream ads later this year.

Choice over Video Placement

You can now choose where you want your video campaigns to run (in-stream or native and interstitial) using an opt-out format.  Simple as that.

FB’s made it a point to help advertisers be successful by providing tools like these.  And when you’re feeling a little hazy on anything, like which tool does what, or how to extend your campaigns, Facebook’s now got you covered there, too.  They recently launched some easy to understand, elearning courses to help you be even more of an advertising all-star.

So, get familiar with these new tools, and keep an eye out for the ad placements tools that are still yet to launch.
