Facebook Stories are Coming, and That’s Awesome for Your Business

It really was only a matter of time until Facebook introduced a story-like feature on its main app.  Yes, Facebook stories are finally (sort of) here, and it has potential to be incredibly helpful for your business on the marketing front.

Facebook debuted its Stories feature in Ireland earlier in the year, and has slowly been releasing it to other countries.  Most recently Chile, Greece, and Vietnam.  Facebook introduced Stories on Instagram last year, and similar features on WhatsApp earlier this year as well.  And, while both these apps do rake in a lot of monthly users, Facebook still accounts for the most with 1.7 billion.  So, it just made sense to make Stories available on this platform, too.

As per usual, the feature is receiving mixed feelings from users.  Some of the backlash regarding this update has to do with the fact that Facebook serves as full directory in a sense.  Everyone is on Facebook.  It’s the one place with all of your contacts, from all walks of life: close friends, acquaintances, relatives, you name it.  When you’re posting a story on apps like Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Instagram, it’s generally to a more specific or curated audience.  And on Facebook, it’s literally everyone you know.

But, that being said, when you think about it as a business, everyone is on Facebook.  Yeah, has a nice ring to it now.  Whoever your audience may be, no matter how specific, you’ll be able to find them on Facebook.  With Facebook having more monthly users than the other apps, it also gives you the potential to reach a larger audience just in general.  And, even though stories on Instagram and Snapchat may be for that more curated audience, you can obviously just curate your content specifically to each platform, and accommodate this larger or different Facebook audience.  Problem solved.

Facebook stories feature could potentially mean more ad space, too.  Ads in Instagram Stories just recently rolled out, so we’re assuming ads in Facebook stories can’t be too far behind.  Especially with the success Instagram Stories ads have already been producing.
